Website developer since 1999. I specialize in envisioning, scoping, and creating websites with complex functionality (e-commerce, membership management, members-only content, online courses, electronic media). Committed to Drupal content management system.
Drupal, PHP, mySQL, CiviCRM, CMS
Why should you hire me?
1) I have been working full-time as a web developer since 2004, and hand-coded my first HTML sites in 1999. Try and ask *that* of any of your potential peeps --- not many of us have been working for that long.
2) I have an ability to synthesize the different items on your "to-do" list into an understanding of what potential technology is out there to support your needs. The Web has come a long way, and more tools are coming out every day.
3) I'm (in general) friendly, communicative, and value honesty/transparency in the working process.
4) If we're a good fit, you'll gain a technology partner that helps you think strategically and creatively about your needs.
5) I like to think I'm on the side of good: I choose, as much as possible, to support causes and issues that increase honesty, transparency, integrity, tolerance, and civic-mindedness. Let's focus on building a shared future that is safe for all people.

I typically work with leadership at four different types of organizations:
A) small-sized, established companies --- these are typically corporations and non-profits with staff of between 5-50 and revenues/annual budgets between $1 million - $7 million
B) Membership groups, industry associations, or dues-paying groups that require a directory of members and the ability for members to pay dues online & access members-only content
C) Brick-and-mortar companies and organizations needing to establish a web presence, for example for the following needs:
D) Startup founders with a great idea, an identifiable market, and a strong core team - I prefer to work with artisan, sustainable, and high quality e-commerce projects in the green/eco-friendly sphere.
I'm interested in measurable outcomes of success such as: increase in annual revenue, more orders fulfilled online, increase in average customer sale, increase in memberships processed online, etc.
Independent serving clients since 2004 through http://www.10kwebdesign.com.
Also do a Google search for Monica S. Flores to learn more about me and my philosophy, and review if we are a good match.
I'm seeking additional opportunities to work with: green/sustainable businesses, progressive organizations, and women-owned companies.
Good fit:
+ OrganizedNot a good fit:
+ UnorganizedIf you choose to work with me, I request that you be organized and put major thinking into your project. An hour on your end spent thinking about the project translates into two hours saved during the build process.
Think of building a website like creating a house, with planning, blueprints, design ideas, and then buildout. I ask for the following:
A) a "high-level" requirements document -- what do you want the website to do? who's the core, target market? how will you monetize the site? what functions do you need, in a prioritized list?
B) your "priorities" grid --- what are the "priority A" functions? What *must* the website do, to begin with? Then you can also list out priority B "secondary importance" and priority C "nice to have" to help focus our time together.
C) Your domain and hosting if you have it. I recommend Namecheap.com or GoDaddy.com for domain names (the actual www.yourname.com) and Nexcess https://affiliates.nexcess.net/idevaffiliate.php?id=1169 for hosting (where your files "live"). If you already have hosting, please get together the following: FTP information, hosting control panel information, DNS, and any e-mail addresses you need.
D) a "roles" list -- this is like the list of the different types of users on your website. Typically this breaks down into: Anonymous Visitors, Members who have Signed Up or Paid, and Administrators.
E) some designs of other websites you like the look-and-feel-of, and why you like them. Also decide if you need custom design or can go with a pre-built 'template'.
F) The actual content you want to have, like About us, a Products list (title, price, description, photos), and How it Works section.
G) Your estimated timeline - when does the site need to be up?
Thanks, and I look forward to working with you.
